Without much fanfare, The Mars Volta officially released their ninth studio album Lucro sucio; Los ojos del vacio today, April 11th. The record had already leaked months ago, but the band remained tight-lipped about its status—only to end up performing it in full each night during their recently concluded U.S. tour alongside Deftones and Fleshwater.
Now that the tour is in the rearview, the progressive rock icons have unveiled a new run of fall North American dates. Support acts are still to be announced. Pre-sales kick off this Monday, April 14th, with general on-sale set for next Friday, April 18th at 10:00am local time.

How’s the new album?
Gerry Obi Jaramillo it’s phenomenal. Completely different than anything before. It’s what I picture being performed at a night club in Madrid in 1978 where everyone is drinking apéritifs and smoke long cigarettes. Lots of thin mustaches.
Gerry Obi Jaramillo its Amazing
Gerry Obi Jaramillo a snoozefest
Gerry Obi Jaramillo boring as hell
Gerry Obi Jaramillo it’s great. People saying otherwise are Monster swilling five finger death punch fanboy mouth breathers
Chris Belcher be honest. The new album is nothing more than Omar pushing further into his desire to be just a somber Latin band. It is so far removed from Deloused, what brought us all to love the band, that they’re now unrecognizable.
Louis Ortega it’s somewhat far removed from deloused, the production is really great, it’s like dark psychedelic jungle trip hop. If you’re wanting deloused, listen to that, expecting bands to cater to fans is poison for art. Artists should make the art they believe in and need to make, there will always be an audience that resonates with it, if that’s not you, then move on and be thankful they ever made anything that made you feel something.
Gerry Obi Jaramillo I personally like it a lot! Even if it’s different at their previous LPs it’s amazing!
Gerry Obi Jaramillo Sounds like a hamster trapped in a snare drum, while Cedric hymns into a megaphone and Omar throws rocks at random instruments.
Gerry Obi Jaramillo It has a lot of the sounds of the last album, but less Poppy.
It sucks
Gerry Obi Jaramillo I very much enjoyed after the 15 minute mark. I think that’s Song seven, and on.. song 7 is weird though.. Doesn’t truly start till halfway through because the end of the last song is still carrying on, but when it finally gets there, it’s a killer transition into one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. Listen to it with bass up.
Blake Bailey
Don’t go
I’d rather see Sparta
Luis L Lomeli I saw Sparta play 2 songs before they got booed off the stage
Joe Anaya sure you did
Luis L Lomeli they were the unscheduled opener for incubus in 04.
The vines singer I guess broke his wrist. It didn’t help they had a giant neon pink banner with a swan on it. 2 songs in the guitarist dropped his guitar and walked off stage from people screaming SWAN or booing.
Mike Ezner came out and doodled on his guitar for the rest of their time
Joe Anaya I’ll still take 2 songs from Jim and Sparta over Mars Volta or Incubus so that’s awesome you got to experience some great songs from Sparta before having to watch Incubus
Luis L Lomeli No one asked or cares
Luis L Lomeli oh, so you must be the guy who bought the Sparta albums! I didn’t think I would ever come across you in the wild. Call them! There’s only one original member left and he needs the money. I’m sure he would put on a show for you for the cost of gas and a sandwich!
John Pigeon you really have no clue
what’s so funny? Rene Verdugo Razo
John Pigeon 2 members
Luis L Lomeli So go see them. They toured Porcelain last year and are doing it again this year. Great show.
Michael Chitwood I did and I was there during the original Porcelain tour in ‘05
Luis L Lomeli I saw them last year and I’ll be seeing them on Thursday. I can’t wait. I saw Mars Volta open up for the Deftones a few weeks ago and they were awful. I just can’t get into their new stuff.
Luis L Lomeli 1000%
Ashley McCardle Dillon Zehner Chris Hudson
Todd Arrington 👀💓🎵
Kristina Arata Jacob Arata
Todd Arrington I’ll get the vitamins
Dillon Zehner yes please 😂😂
Dillon Zehner yes, that’s your job now… 🤣
Got our tickets this morning!
Bring a pillow…
No thanks, I’d rather go support Linkin Park
I heard it was boring as shit. But, I’ve yet to check it out. Just saying what I’ve heard.
Inigo-Patty P-Montoya It is.
It was
Inigo-Patty P-Montoya and I love love love mars volta
seeing cedric posted on a page called mosh network is unintentionally hilarious
Snoozefest. Bring back Jon Theodore.
Aaron Almanzan Thomas Pridgen is fire too
Is it just me or does Cedeic look like he is wearing a cheap Halloween wig?
Stef Kastamonitis who?
Any ideas or confirmation as to what their setlists will be like on this tour? Saw them a couple of years ago and they played mostly De-Loused stuff. I’m digging the new album and I’m excited to hear new stuff live…I just hope they play their old catalog too.
Ben Howard New album isn’t long enough for a headlining tour.
The crap that they pulled on the deftones tour, this is a bad move lol
** Doing the Wild Bixler – Rodriguez dance **
Naw…. we straight cuz. New album straight dumpsta’juice….
Paul M Abatiello I am going to buy you tickets for your birthday. You’ll have to graciously accept and attend. It would be rude if you didn’t.
Good luck, losers
Do yourself a favor and don’t go. I have never been so disappointed in a band, and I recently went to a DMB concert.
