Another Lineup Shift for THE OCEAN: Guitarist David Ramis Åhfeldt Announces Departure

German post-metal collective The Ocean are undergoing yet another personnel change. Following the departure of longtime drummer Paul Seidel earlier this year and the subsequent addition of Jordi Farré (Crippled Black Phoenix, [Dolch]) behind the kit, the band is now preparing to say farewell to another member.

Guitarist David Ramis Åhfeldt has officially announced he will be stepping away from the group. In a heartfelt message shared yesterday, June 10th, Åhfeldt cited personal reasons for his decision and made it clear that the split is an amicable one:

“I’ve decided to step down from my position as guitarist of The Ocean.
The reasons are purely personal, and I want to be clear that there’s absolutely no bad blood between any of us. I love the guys deeply and will always be grateful for the experiences we’ve shared over the years.
Without getting too deep into it, I’ve come to realize that I’m no longer happy being involved in the band — and that’s something I can’t ignore.
That said, these past years have been an incredible ride, and I’m thankful to have met so many of you along the way. Your support has meant the world to me.
I’ll be playing my final shows with the band soon, including an epic closing chapter show at @hellfestopenair. If you happen to be at any of the shows, please come and say hi — I’d love that.

The band recently wrapped a run of live performances dubbed the ‘End Of An Eon’—a fitting title that now seems to underscore a transitional era for the group. Åhfeldt’s final appearance with The Ocean will include a set at this year’s Hellfest Open Air, marking the end of his chapter with the band.
