German post-metal collective The Ocean are nearing the end of the recording process for their twelfth studio album, with plans to release the record in the second half of 2026.
The update comes from guitarist and primary songwriter Robin Staps, who shared a reflective message on Instagram on January 2, outlining both the band’s recent upheaval and their renewed creative momentum.
Following the conclusion of their ‘End Of An Eon’ touring cycle, The Ocean underwent a major lineup shift in 2025, parting ways with vocalist Loïc Rossetti, guitarist David Ramis Åhlfeldt, and drummer Paul Seidel. The changes marked the end of a defining era for the band — and the beginning of a reshaped incarnation.
Addressing the transition and the band’s future, Staps wrote:
“2025 was a transitional year, but a very important one for The Ocean. A year ago, I had a hard time imagining this next chapter without my former band mates Paul, Loïc and David… But as old things fell apart, new things fell into place… almost effortlessly and much quicker than I could have hoped for.”
Staps went on to confirm that the band are deep into the studio process, describing the experience as both creatively fulfilling and revitalizing.
“After a year of reflecting, rebuilding and reshaping, it feels very much like everything is in the right place. The Ocean Collective is ready for the next chapter: we are in the process of finishing recordings for an hour of new music.”
The guitarist also confirmed the projected release window for the album, expressing renewed excitement despite the band’s long history.
“Our 12th studio album will be released in the 2nd half of 2026. And I am as excited about this as a 46-year-old kid waiting to play his first gig ever.”
While The Ocean have remained relatively quiet publicly over the past year, Staps reassured fans that new material will surface soon, closing his message with gratitude for their patience and support during the band’s rebuilding phase.
