The Smashing Pumpkins Reunite With Butch Vig In Studio For First New Collaboration In 32 Years

The Smashing Pumpkins have returned to the studio with producer Butch Vig, marking their first collaboration together in over three decades.

Frontman Billy Corgan confirmed that he recently reunited with James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin to record a new single alongside Vig, who previously co-produced the band’s seminal early albums ‘Gish’ and ‘Siamese Dream’.

Corgan shared the news via social media on May 20, noting that the session marked their first time working with Vig in 32 years and teasing that more details are being held back for now.

He later expanded on Substack, explaining that the track is already nearly complete and described it as being intended for a “specific purpose,” though he did not elaborate further. The song is expected to be released later this year.

The reunion comes as The Smashing Pumpkins prepare for a major touring year, including plans for the 30th anniversary celebration of ‘Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness’.
