Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello has announced a new solo single titled “Date Night,” which is scheduled for release on July 28.
A teaser for the track has been shared online ahead of its arrival, revealing the historical inspiration behind the song. According to the preview, “Date Night” draws from the story of Freddie Oversteegen, Truus Oversteegen, and Hannie Schaft, three teenage members of the Dutch resistance during World War II.
The trio became known for their efforts to combat the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, including reportedly luring German officers and Nazi collaborators into vulnerable situations before helping facilitate their deaths. Beyond those operations, they also took part in acts of sabotage against the occupying forces.
Their resistance activities included destroying infrastructure, such as bridges, and assisting broader efforts to undermine Nazi control throughout the country during the war.
The forthcoming single continues Morello’s long-running tradition of drawing inspiration from political and historical subjects. Fans can currently pre-save “Date Night” ahead of its release later this month.
