    Tom Morello of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Joins Anti-ICE Protests in Los Angeles

    Tom Morello, the iconic guitarist of Rage Against The Machine and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, has long been known for his outspoken political activism. Throughout his career, Morello hasn’t hesitated to champion causes he believes in — from supporting labor unions to calling out political leaders across the spectrum, and standing with political prisoners worldwide.

    Recently, the 61-year-old musician lent his voice to defend both his alma mater, Harvard University, and fellow rock legend Bruce Springsteen, both of whom have publicly clashed with policies under the Trump administration.

    Now, Morello has stepped up again amid the ongoing protests in Los Angeles sparked by immigration raids carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Despite some local officials labeling the protests as an overreaction, President Donald Trump deployed the National Guard and U.S. Marines to the city in an attempt to control the unrest.

    Earlier this week, Morello took to the streets himself to support the demonstrators, sporting a batting helmet — a nod to his passion for the Chicago Cubs. His opposition to ICE is no surprise: just last month at Boston Calling festival, he displayed a sign on his guitar reading “Fuck I.C.E.”

    Sharing photos and videos on his Instagram from his time among the protesters, Morello referenced Rage Against The Machine’s seminal track “Guerilla Radio” from their multi-platinum album The Battle of Los Angeles. His caption read:

    “Made some friends in Boyle Heights and DTLA yesterday. #DefendLA #WhatBetterPlaceThanHereWhatBetterTimeThanNow”

        Justin Weberg they played at the battle of Los Angeles in 2000. I was there at the democratic national convention working in a phone company central office, and heard they were playing. I went to the show and was there for the start of the riots where protesters marched from Pershing Square. Whenever I tell this story, I always have to denounce any party affiliation, so nobody gets the idea that I’m shilling for a side here, I’m not a Republican or a Democrat. I’m an independent voter. I’m anti-war, anti-fascist, and pro-worker. My political preference is basically Social Liberatarian. I believe we need to stop redistribution in the way it’s done today, and begin correct distribution. Correct distribution means sharing profits, and not just having a union, but an actual stake in the businesses we work for. Everyone gets to vote on the direction of the business to decide if you invest, or divest, if you open a new location or decide to move away to another location. Everyone has more money to invest into politics and we have less money flowing to the top. So, the elites don’t get to decide everything with their massively outsized influence. That’s the revolution I want to see. One where we can afford not only to take care of ourselves, but our parents and grandparents, and still have enough to fund a campaign and take a real vacation, to invest in our communities. My revolution seeks not only to end crapitalism but to replace it with something far better.

      Damn.. One of my fave bands & you guys are awesome in concert! So Tom, I bet you’re grateful you all were able to become famous & successful Americans because regular people like us supported your band.. not so much your politics, but we still came cause we don’t all have to agree on everything but we can still get along, at least there was a time when.. Like I said some of the best concerts ever.. where we had to pay for a ticket just to be there. Stood in ridiculous lines, waiting our turn to spend a alot of money on food, drinks, t-shirt’s & whatever or just to use the restroom.. where there were rules we had to follow & if we didn’t people got kicked out & even arrested from time to time, you know, for you guys safety, & ours too.. I bet you’ve been thankful for all your body guards, security officers, police escorts..not just here but every where in the world you’ve toured & traveled.. Yep, “bad” capitalist, lawful America, where you are free, successful & more protected than we are, but please, carry on in a country where you have the freedom & safety to do so. My paycheck now is less than 500 we take home vs 1200 gross because of taxes collected from me so other people can live the worry free life.
