Tool opened their new run across Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Hawaii with one of their most unexpected setlists in decades. Long criticized by portions of their fanbase for a slow creative cycle and a typically rigid setlist structure, the band surprised attendees in Auckland on November 22nd by resurrecting several deep cuts that had not been performed since the late ’90s and early 2000s.
Fans have grown accustomed to modest setlist shifts at best, especially as Maynard James Keenan — now 61 — has openly acknowledged the challenges of revisiting the more aggressive material from the band’s early years. But last night marked a significant departure from that pattern.
The Undertow track “Crawl Away” appeared for the first time since 1998, while “H.” from Ænima returned after a 23-year absence. The Lateralus piece “Disposition” was also performed for the first time since 2002. As a further curveball, the band once again rolled out their live cover of Black Sabbath’s “Hand Of Doom,” which they debuted earlier this year at the ‘Back To The Beginning’ festival in Birmingham — a show notable for being the final live appearance of Ozzy Osbourne.
Last night’s full setlist included:
“The Grudge”
“Fear Inoculum”
“Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann)”
“Rosetta Stoned”
“Disposition”
“Jambi”
“Pneuma”
“Crawl Away”
“Vicarious”
“Intolerance”
Encore:
“Chocolate Chip Trip”
“Hand Of Doom” (Black Sabbath cover)
“Invincible”
Despite the band’s long-standing no-filming policy, fan-shot footage from the Auckland performance has surfaced online.
Upcoming tour dates include:
11/23 Auckland, NZ – Spark Arena
11/28 Adelaide, AUS – Adelaide Entertainment Centre (feat. Headsend)

Damn that’s a good setlist
An epic night last night
Right in two on day 2!!!
That’s an amazing setlist
It was definitely worth the flight over from Australia to see them again.
4th time and that was possibly the best set list I’ve seen (or can remember lol).
Richard North me too mate. Flew in with my wife and surprised her (she had never seen them). Such an epic night
Both nights were epic. So many songs not on the usual set list. Amazing to hear live. Lucky to have Seen 16 times now.
That’s the go fellas , Open up the Vault..
AMEN,bring that same energy back to the states!!!
Its cool…but they played 6 of those songs the day b4….aren’t they being sued for doing the same thing at tool in the sand?
Bagger Gabe The 2nd show was to give those of us who couldnt get tickets in the first presale a chance to see them live so if people went both nights thats the chance they were going to take. Why should those of us who went to the 2nd show miss out on our favourites cause some people went both nights.
Maysie Lane that has to be the weakest excuse
Bagger Gabe hahahaha typical Seppos. Get upset..” I’ll sue you!!”

🤤 Lisa Na Mate Jaclyn Harkness
Fleur Elise omg
Killer set list.
Could have been better
Jimmy Ronald omg this is going to be soooo goood
Deon Krahe you know it! One song they last played was in the late 19th century 🤣
I know I’m crazy for saying this, but I’ve never seen Tool, Puscifer, or A Perfect Circle. Been a huge fan for many decades, just the timing or situation never worked out. Be great if they came to Charleston SC again
I went Metallica a few days before this and that was epic but this was definitely the best show I’ve been to.
They look like they fondle each other
Finally
