Tool & Chris Cornell Among This Year’s GRAMMY Awards Winners

The rock and metal awards for this year’s 62nd annual GRAMMYs were handed out in a pre-show ceremony held at The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA this afternoon. As is often the case, the awards for the heavier genres are a part of the livestreamed pre-show, while the official GRAMMY awards ceremony held at The Staples Center will be televised later tonight.
Here’s who took home the golden phonogram:

The rock and metal awards for this year’s 62nd annual GRAMMY‘s were awarded in a pre-show ceremony at The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA yesterday afternoon. Per usual, the heavier genres were a part of the pre-show that is live-streamed while the official GRAMMY awards ceremony were held at The Staples Center. 

Best Metal Performance:

  • Tool– “7empest” (winner)
  • Candlemass & Tony Iommi – “Astorolus – The Great Octopus“
  • Death Angel – “Humanicide“
  • I Prevail – “Bow Down“
  • Killswitch Engage – “Unleashed“

Best Rock Performance:

  • Gary Clark Jr. – “This Land” (winner)
  • Bones UK – “Pretty Waste“
  • Brittany Howard – “History Repeats“
  • Karen O & Danger Mouse – “Woman“
  • Rival Sons – “Too Bad“

Best Rock Song:

  • Gary Clark Jr. – “This Land” (winner)
  • The 1975 – “Give Yourself A Try“
  • Vampire Weekend – “Harmony Hall“
  • Brittany Howard – “History Repeats“
  • Tool – “Fear Inoculum“

Best Rock Album:

  • Cage The Elephant – “Social Cues” (winner)
  • Bring Me The Horizon – “amo“
  • The Cranberries – “In The End“
  • I Prevail – “Trauma“
  • Rival Sons – “Feral Roots“

Chris Cornell‘s posthumous self-titled album won the award for Best Recording package category with the design done by Barry Ament, Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam) and Joe Spix.
