Tool continued their unexpected setlist overhaul during tonight’s (Nov. 23) second performance at Auckland’s Spark Arena, delivering the first live performance of ‘Prison Sex’ in 23 years. The track — a cornerstone of the band’s 3x platinum debut Undertow — hadn’t appeared in their set since April 2002.
The surprise additions didn’t end there. The band also brought back ‘Intension’ from 10,000 Days, marking its first performance since 2014, and unveiled the live debut of ‘Mockingbeat’ from Fear Inoculum.
These developments follow last night’s already dramatic shakeup, which saw long-shelved favorites ‘Crawl Away’, ‘H.’, and ‘Disposition’ make rare returns. For a band notoriously resistant to major setlist changes, the past 48 hours have been unusually generous — especially given the setlist-related criticism the group faced earlier this year.

Just play undertow and opioid albums. I would be so happy. Or you could redo the lateralus tour. The freaks from the videos and contortionist came sliding down ropes. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Even my girl who is a pop type music lover couldn’t believe the show and understood why I like tool so much.
