Tool & Red Hot Chili Peppers Members Join All-Star Jam At Black Sabbath & Ozzy Osbourne’s Tribute Show

The highly anticipated all-star tribute to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne has just added two powerhouse drummers: Danny Carey (Tool) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers). Smith’s involvement comes as no surprise, given his work on Ozzy’s most recent studio albums.

Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello is spearheading the event, assembling a collective of legendary musicians to pay homage to both Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne, marking what is expected to be their respective final live performances.

Taking place at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK—the hometown of Black Sabbath—the historic event will feature a farewell performance from Black Sabbath with returning original drummer Bill Ward, as well as a solo set from Ozzy Osbourne. Also set to perform are:

• Anthrax

A special all-star jam session will also take place, featuring an impressive lineup of rock and metal icons:

• Slash (Guns N’ Roses)

Speaking with NME, Sharon Osbourne revealed how Tom Morello became the mastermind behind the jam session:

“[Tom] is so knowledgeable on all different genres of music, but especially Sabbath. He’s really passionate about everything he does and is such a great mate. He volunteered, and the stuff that he’s managing to put together has been amazing. He’s going to take care of all the different bands that are playing together and arranging who does what song. It’s a huge undertaking, and he can manage it all.”

She continued:

“It starts at noon, then you’re going to see one icon playing with another icon, doing a Sabbath song and one or two of their own songs, and people playing with each other that you never thought you’d see.”

Morello himself will be taking the stage alongside Danny Carey (Tool) and Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins), while other unique collaborations are expected, including Slash, Duff McKagan, and various surprise guests.

As for the celebratory nature of the event, Osbourne added:

“No, this is a celebration – of the genre and the pioneers who started it and passed it on to all these bands. Usually this thing is done when you’re dead – so it’s nice that these guys can be alive to be appreciated!”

Further guests for the all-star jam session are still to be announced.

Tickets for the event will go on sale Friday, February 14th, at 10:00 AM GMT.
