    TRAPT Forced to Relocate Pittsburgh Show Amid Ongoing Booking Issues Tied to Frontman’s Controversial Past

    Roughly five years after a string of controversial social media outbursts from TRAPT vocalist/guitarist Chris Taylor Brown, the band continues to face ongoing fallout. The multi-platinum alternative rock group, best known for their early 2000s success, has remained active—but not without continued turbulence.

    During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Brown became a lightning rod for controversy. Public online confrontations between him and various musicians, media figures, and fans became frequent. His outspoken support of right-wing politics fueled much of the tension, but his most widely criticized moment came in December of 2020 when he was banned from Twitter following incendiary comments related to pedophilia. Other accounts tied to Brown and TRAPT have since been permanently removed from various platforms.

    Though the band has pressed forward musically, the backlash has bled into their touring efforts. In 2024, TRAPT were removed from the Louder Than Life festival lineup, and earlier this year, they were dropped from a tour with Powerman 5000, Ill Niño, and others just days after it was announced. The band claimed “virtue signaling” was at the root of these decisions, stating, “All along the media (govt propaganda mouthpiece) has tried to ‘destroy Trapt’ after 2020 and they have failed miserably.”

    Those challenges appear to have followed the band into their current acoustic tour, with at least four venues reportedly canceling upcoming shows. One such cancellation occurred yesterday (April 18th) in Pittsburgh, PA, where the band had been scheduled to play at SideQuest on 44th. Instead, TRAPT performed an impromptu DIY set at The Building For Arts And Culture in North Versailles, PA, constructing a makeshift plywood stage and inviting fans to join them for an intimate performance.

    In a video shared from the event, Brown addressed the situation:

    “What’s up? TRAPT is in Pittsburgh tonight, and we had a couple venues cave to cancel culture in the last few weeks… But we decided we’re doing it no matter what… We got this venue, called The Building For Arts And Culture. We got some Bud Lights, White Claw… and just everything that our fans are going to need to have a great time with us tonight.”

    He went on to thank those who helped pull the night together and emphasized that the band has moved on from past controversies:

    “I did apologize… for my insensitivity, for anybody who was hurt by that. But yeah, we moved on. Our fans have moved on. There’s a few people who haven’t, but yeah, we did this show… We were gonna do this show no matter what.”

    In a statement from March, Brown reaffirmed that the band has taken a step back from political discourse, writing:

    “TRAPT has not spoken about anything other than music for years now… Blessed to have fans that stuck with us through all the 2020 Trump support hate.”

          Steph Hand I don’t need a screenshot. I did my homework when I was fortunate enough to start working together with these guys to host a few events. I’m aware of the comments (not actions) that were made. They were comments. Any boy in highschool went through these emotions growing up and went back and forth with their friends about how hot the new substitute teacher was. To say that never happened would be a lie. Regardless of that being a reality and also a double standard, were you to put the shoe on the other foot, Chris publicly took ownership of his comment and apologized. He even went as far as to say that the comment was meant to be a joke but that it fell short and ended up being in poor taste, but a joke nonetheless. My whole thing with this is that comedians across time have made similar and edgier comments and we don’t try to ruin their careers over it. I’m not going to insult you or be derogatory because I truly believe that we’re all human and we all make mistakes. Have you ever done something that you regret when it didn’t get received the way you intended? Did you apologize? Did society cast you out and judge you for the next six years of your life and career even after that? I would only say before casting judgement on others, try to think about the perspective of others because it is human to denounce. It is progressive to embrace and accept other people and the mistakes they have made. I’ve met these guys and they were the exact opposite of what I read about them from people who don’t know them as real individuals. This guy is trying to feed his family with this career and it really sucks to see people who don’t know the real Chris try to destroy that over comments.

          Morgan Cross having worked with these guys, I don’t receive any disrespect from them at all. They’re incredibly polite and easy to work with and also helpful. These aren’t internet experiences, they’re physical interactions where I have the opportunity to shake someone’s hand and look them in the eye when something is said. Have you had those interactions with the person at question or is this just stuff that you hear through twitter accounts and other social media outlets? There’s a huge difference and I don’t think you’re going to change my views on that basis.

I’m not trying to excuse anything, but I have actually worked alongside this guy personally and I am being honest when I say that he was and still is very easy to work with and conduct business. I don’t generally pay attention to the banter online, but I am also focused on the concert, itself. I have to keep the two things separate or I could never book any artist, as they all have skeletons in the closet. I can’t fault you for having the perception that you have and I don’t have any hard feelings if we continue to disagree. I’m happy to have this dialogue with you.           Grant Feelin Von Tingley if I were to drop a piece of horseshit on the ground, and someone said “hey that’s shit” and I say “no, it’s satire”, it doesn’t make it anything different than horseshit. Satire is a clever or witty subversion of veiled disagreement, where people who share the hidden disagreement can share a wink or nod and be understood. That’s not what you did.

          You don’t get to just drop horseshit and say it’s satire, that’s not how it works, and just tells me that you don’t understand what you’re trying to justify.

      Went to support my brother’s band in Phx and Trapt was the “closing” band. They showed up 1 1/2 late and pushed back the time for all of the bands. Their guitarist was an absolute a hole during sound check and said, F it, just play, F the play back.
