Longtime Marilyn Manson collaborator Tyler Bates has announced his departure from Manson’s current touring lineup, bringing an end to a live partnership that dates back more than a decade.
Best known for his extensive work as a film and television composer, Bates had been touring with Manson since 2024, joining the shock rocker’s live band as he resumed touring following a prolonged hiatus. Bates also played a key role in Manson’s recent studio output, contributing to multiple albums during their collaboration.
In a statement shared on January 5, Bates explained that the decision was driven by a desire to refocus on his broader creative work.
“Every New Year prompts reflection on all that has transpired and what lies ahead,” Bates wrote.
“I have decided to conclude my time touring with Marilyn Manson to focus on my artist, film, and television projects.”
Bates went on to praise his bandmates — drummer Gil Sharone, guitarist/vocalist Reba Meyers, and bassist Matt “Piggy D” Montgomery — while reflecting positively on their recent touring run in support of One Assassination Under God: Chapter One.
“They are stellar humans on and off stage,” Bates added. “I will miss performing with them for the incredible audiences we met around the planet.”
Despite stepping away from live duties, Bates confirmed that his creative relationship with Manson is not over. He revealed that he remains involved in the upcoming ‘Chapter Two’, which will mark his fourth studio album collaboration with the artist.
“I will be actively supporting the upcoming release of ‘Chapter Two,’ which I believe is our finest work together.”
Following the announcement, Bates received public messages of support from his now-former bandmates. Reba Meyers commented, “Love you Tyler, will miss you up there,” while Gil Sharone added, “Much love Tyler!”
Elsewhere, Marilyn Manson marked a personal milestone on the same day, celebrating his 57th birthday with a star-studded gathering. Photos shared via Manson’s Instagram Stories showed appearances from a wide range of musicians and collaborators, including Billy Corgan, Courtney Love, John 5, Danny Elfman, Billy Idol, Billy Morrison, Tim Skold, Greg Puciato, Dita Von Teese, VOWWS, and others.
As of now, no announcement has been made regarding a replacement touring guitarist.
