Goth metal legends Type O Negative have officially earned their first gold single in the United States with “I Don’t Wanna Be Me,” the lead single from their 2005 album Life Is Killing Me. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) confirmed the certification on June 15.
The milestone adds a new entry to the band’s long history of U.S. certifications, which already includes gold status for October Rust and their 1998 video release After Dark. Their most commercially successful album remains Bloody Kisses, which originally went gold in 1995 before reaching platinum status in 2000.
Released as the only single from Life Is Killing Me, “I Don’t Wanna Be Me” has now become a late-breaking standout in the band’s catalog decades after its initial release.
Type O Negative’s broader legacy continues to loom large following the 2010 passing of frontman Peter Steele, with the band remaining largely inactive since. A forthcoming live release from the “Drab Four” has also been reported to be in the pipeline.
