After announcing their hiatus, many assumed Veil Of Maya were gone for good—but it looks like the djent/metalcore outfit is gearing up for a comeback. Founding guitarist Marc Okubo recently took to X to hint at the band’s return, posting:
“When veil comes back it will be the heavy version“
Repeated twice for emphasis, the message has sparked excitement among fans, many of whom were uncertain about the band’s future. While details remain scarce—whether they’ll return to touring, focus on studio work, or if the lineup will stay intact—Okubo’s updates strongly suggest that Veil Of Maya’s return is inevitable, and that they’ll be revisiting their heavier roots.
In the meantime, Okubo has kept busy handling live guitar duties for Falling in Reverse on tour.

Jordan Barnard musically they’re significantly more interesting with a more dynamic sound. I hated the albums with Lukas for years, but love them now. Brandon was great and I still listen to old VOM but they are technically better now.
Thomas Giglio there is no “technically” better. This is all subjective and opinion-based. I like both. But I got into them with the original vocalist and albums, so those always resonate more with me.

Henry Wylienahhhh the melody is alright, and there was totally melody prior to Lucas, but Brandon didn’t do clean singing, which isn’t always bad, however VOM went straight up metalcore from Eclipse to Matriarch and for those of us that preferred that OG djent sound, it was less than desirable.

I guess I’m more hung up on the “good better best” idea with the different vocal eras. Brandon was objectively more death metal vocals, vs Lucas being metalcore as hell. I’ll always take Brandon era over Lucas simply because I was in high school when I discovered Vial of Mayo and Common Mans Collapse was formative as shit for me

Idk where you’re getting your info from but you’re wrong. It’s well established and agreed upon that VoM were deathcore and ASP is and always has been deathcore (melodic deathcore more specifically).
Deathcore has sub-genres just like death metal and metalcore. VoM used to fall into tech/melodic/progressive deathcore. Now they fall into tech/progressive metalcore.

You don’t seem to realize that metal genres have different styles. Old VoM is deathcore the same as Suicide Silence, Shadow of Intent, Bodysnatcher, and Lorna Shore are. They all fall under the broader term and are further subdivided into different styles of it aka, sub-genres. I’m just gonna end it here because this is going nowhere so you can call them metalcore or disco but the fact remains that they WERE a deathcore band.

A lot of people forget that they’ve had some heavy songs with Lukas on vocals. Songs like Nyu, Leeloo, Lucy, and Tokyo Chainsaw are some of the heaviest songs in their discography outside of their stuff with Brandon, lol.

Tony Heinzel I literally watched an entire venue walk out on them, and they were the headliner. That’s how bad it was. It was me and about 20 people in this room watching them.
Hopefully with less backing tracks and tighter vocals. I was extremely unimpressed with their performance when I saw them last year.

After they shifted to that metalcore-ish approach with clean vocals, I stepped away. It was by no means bad, but it really didn’t do it for me. I’m hopeful they’ll make stuff that is closer to my wheelhouse. Great band.

Marc. What you need to do is take it all the way back to all things set aside, apply the mixing of common mans collapse, fuse a little I.D. parts and just scrap some of the more recent mixings and just lay on the brown notes. I’ve seen Veil of Maya more times than i’ve seen my own mother, the material is there , you just gotta tap back into the primal connection that Veil initially had. People will come if you will build it! The boy band shit has got to go, we’ve all had to endure Dance Gavin Dance and its time to close that chapter on metal
