HIM Frontman Ville Valo Says He’d “Love To Play With The Lads Again Someday”

Years after HIM officially called it a day in 2017, frontman Ville Valo is leaving the door slightly open for a potential reunion — even if it’s far from imminent.

Valo, who has since carved out a solo path following the band’s farewell run, recently spoke with Metal Hammer and admitted the idea of sharing the stage with his former bandmates again still lingers.

“I would love to play with the lads again someday.”

However, fans hoping to dust off their heartagram tattoos shouldn’t get ahead of themselves just yet. Valo was quick to temper expectations, revealing that he hasn’t stayed closely connected with his former bandmates since the split.

“But I haven’t really been in touch.”

Despite the distance, the emotional connection remains intact, with Valo reflecting on the bond they shared during the band’s run.

“But I miss those fellows. They are my brothers. But there’s also beauty in the fact we didn’t strangle each other at the end, or start travelling in separate limos. So there is that to be said. I felt it was the right way to bury the corpse. HIM was and is my life. It was very hard to let go of that.”

Looking back on the band’s final chapter, Valo described their farewell tour as both difficult and meaningful, especially given the clarity of knowing it was truly the end.

“The bittersweet thing about it was that we were still good friends, we’d just grown apart.”

“In regards to the farewell tour, it was nice to play when we had a finite date that it was going to end. By setting the end date first, you don’t have to have reserves. Every night felt like it was our last in a way.”

While nothing is currently in motion, Valo’s comments make one thing clear — the legacy of HIM is still very much alive, even if a reunion remains uncertain.
