Families of Wayne Static and Tera Wray Object to Unauthorized Documentary From Matt Zane

The families of the late Wayne Static (Static-X) and Tera Wray have issued a statement strongly opposing filmmaker Matt Zane’s plans for an unauthorized documentary about the couple. According to the relatives, they “strenuously object” to the project, emphasizing that any attempt to exploit the likenesses of Wayne or Tera without permission will face legal action.

In their statement, the families clarified that they are not interested in any unauthorized biographies or documentaries, including unseen footage, private photos, or any other portrayals of Wayne Wells Static or Tera Lents Wray Static:

“We are not interested in the further development of any unauthorized biography or documentary focused on our deceased son, daughter, and siblings, Wayne Wells (‘Wayne Static’) and Tera Lents (‘Tera Wray’). … Any attempt to exploit their unauthorized likeness will be met with the appropriate legal response.”

The statement also pointed to previous music videos — Wayne Static’s ‘Assassins Of Youth’ (2013) and Static-X’s ‘Stay Alive’ (2023) — as examples of content that already depict the couple’s lifestyle prior to their deaths. The families highlighted that Static-X is nearing completion on the official documentary, Evil Disco – The Rise, Fall, And Regeneration Of Static-X, which will comprehensively cover Wayne’s life, music, and legacy.

They requested that any rare or unreleased footage, musical compositions, or recordings in Matt Zane’s possession be shared with the family for possible inclusion in the official documentary, emphasizing that any AI-generated use of Wayne’s voice is strictly prohibited.

The statement concluded with gratitude for the band’s fans and support for Static-X’s current lineup:

“We fully support the current team and lineup of Static-X and their continued respect and love for Wayne’s memory and our family. We are delighted that the world is continuing to celebrate the powerful music that Wayne and the band created together and the incredible energy that he and the band have always carried onto the stage.”
