Various rarities from the vaults of defunct metalcore band 7 Angels 7 Plagues will be receiving a vinyl and CD release this fall through Sands Of Time Recordings. The upcoming collection, titled Prelude To A Perfect Score, will feature unreleased tracks, demos, and live recordings that showcase the influential band’s early sound and evolution.
A video outlining the contents of this compilation has been shared online below, offering fans a glimpse into the unreleased material and exclusive footage included in Prelude To A Perfect Score. Former bassist David Lesinski shared his thoughts on the release:
“Prelude: An introductory performance, action, or event preceding and preparing for the principle or a more important matter.
I’ve been entrusted with sharing these recordings—a split release featuring previously unheard tracks and live sessions from before this group gained national recognition.
Castahead, a fixture in the Milwaukee/Racine WI hardcore scene for a brief period, had released a 4-song cassette demo and a split CD with another local favorite, Intercede, through Akeldama Records. However, shortly after that release, there were changes in the band’s lineup, and these five songs were recorded. Unfortunately, they never saw an official release, and Castahead disbanded soon after.
Undeterred, members Jared Logan, Matt Matera, and David Lesinski carried forward the band’s sound and direction.. They recruited Intercede‘s vocalist Temo Rios and local guitarist Ryan Morgan. After months of rehearsals and local shows, the newly formed 7A7P gained momentum and began playing throughout the Midwest. There was talk of recording an EP, but technical issues during a self-recording session delayed those plans.
What you’re hearing now is the result of that failed recording session—a live practice session captured by a few room microphones. While it doesn’t include Temo‘s vocals, it does showcase an unreleased song and the raw energy, passion, and evolving musicianship that marked the early days of this group.
In the months following this session, the band continued to invest time and energy into touring, leading to lineup changes. The original bassist left, and Kyle Johnson, formerly of Castahead, stepped in.
Whether you experienced these bands live or followed the various spin-offs these members were part of, hope you enjoy these formative years’ recordings.”
