A Killer’s Confession, the alt-metal outfit led by former Mushroomhead vocalist Waylon Reavis, have put their own dark spin on The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” issuing a stripped-down new rendition of the massive pop hit.
The track arrives ahead of the band’s sixth studio album, ‘Victim 3,’ which is due out this fall through MNRK Heavy. The new cover also comes accompanied by a music video directed by co-producer Dusten Boles, with Reavis and Richard ‘SThomas assisting with the clip.
Rather than attempting to recreate the original’s synth-heavy pop sound, A Killer’s Confession take “Blinding Lights” in a more subdued and haunting direction, putting greater emphasis on the song’s melody and Reavis’ vocals.
According to Reavis, the decision to tackle the song came after the positive response to the band’s cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box.” This time, however, he wanted to step even further outside of the band’s established sound.
“I enjoyed doing Heart-shaped box so much and it was so well received I felt like maybe I should do another. This time I wanted to do something in a different genre, and go a completely different route. I always enjoy the song, ‘Blinding Lights’ just something catchy and haunting about it. I feel like it could be the perfect song to be stuck in our character’s head for the last time ever as we end this trilogy.”
The new single arrives as A Killer’s Confession prepare to hit the road this fall on their “Everything Comes Full Circle Tour” with Dizasterpiece and Dead Things. The trek will support the forthcoming ‘Victim 3’ and includes the following dates:
