Post-hardcore veterans A Static Lullaby are revisiting the record that launched their career with a newly released in-studio performance of their debut album, ‘…And Don’t Forget To Breathe’.
Rather than simply reissuing the material, the California band chose to celebrate the album’s 25th anniversary by performing the release live inside Straitjacket Studios in Fullerton, California, capturing both audio and video versions of the session.
The newly recorded performance has now been made available across streaming platforms, while the band have also released professionally filmed footage documenting the entire session.
In a statement reflecting on the project, the band explained that revisiting the album came after performing several full-album anniversary shows and realizing they wanted to make the experience accessible beyond the cities they were able to visit.
“Celebrating 25 years as a band, we wanted to go back to the songs that started it all.”
“After playing a few full-album shows, we realized we wanted to share that experience with everyone. If we couldn’t make it to your city to play it for you live, we could at least bring it into your living room and let you share that moment with us.”
Instead of rebuilding the material in a traditional studio environment, the band opted to perform and record the album live in one setting.
“So we filmed it and recorded it live in the studio.”
The group also acknowledged the significance the 2003 album still holds within the post-hardcore and emo scenes more than two decades later.
“It’s been a while since we were fully active as a band, and we wanted to reintroduce ourselves to our fans and community through the familiar sound of an album that helped shape a post-hardcore/emo scene that has now become very much mainstream.”
The band added that revisiting the songs today created a different emotional perspective compared to when they originally wrote them as teenagers.
“We’re grown-ass men playing songs we wrote when we were 18, and somehow they still feel fresh and just as relevant today.”
Rather than framing the release as a nostalgia-driven reunion, A Static Lullaby suggested the performance marks the beginning of a new chapter.
“This isn’t a ‘remember us?’ It’s a ‘we’re back,’ and we’re genuinely excited to share what’s coming next.”
