Anthrax have unveiled a new visual for “Cursum Perficio,” the title track from their long-awaited new studio album, which is officially set to arrive tomorrow, September 18.
The monochromatic video was directed by Don Argott, whose previous credits include work with Lamb Of God and Taylor Swift, and features a particularly intense performance from London May, best known for his work with Samhain.
May went all-in on the shoot, even after suffering an injury on the first day of filming. As he recalled, the physical demands of the video were very real.
“‘Cursum Perficio’ brought out the beast in me. I broke my finger the very first day and had to beg them to keep shooting. That was real chain and real pain. I went through hell and back for Anthrax and Don Argott — and I’d happily do it all again!”
The song itself carries some weighty themes for Anthrax guitarist and primary lyricist Scott Ian, who sees the video as an extension of the questions explored throughout the track.
“The video for ‘Cursum Perficio’ captures all of the themes I’m exploring in the lyrics … they’re epic in scope … how do you quantify your life? How do you measure oceans of time, and what did you do with it? And were all the struggles worth it in the end?”
The arrival of the video comes just one day ahead of ‘Cursum Perficio’, marking Anthrax’s first full-length album in 10 years.
The band’s latest chapter officially begins tomorrow, with ‘Cursum Perficio’ scheduled for release on September 18.
