Despite fresh waves of drama surrounding the band, As I Lay Dying will release their eighth studio album, Through Storms Ahead, this Friday, November 15th. As a final preview, the San Diego, CA-based metalcore band—now consisting solely of vocalist Tim Lambesis—has dropped a stream of the new track “The Void Within”.
In recent weeks, As I Lay Dying faced a mass exodus, with guitarist/vocalist Phil Sgrosso, guitarist Ken Susi, bassist/vocalist Ryan Neff, and drummer Nick Pierce all announcing their departures. Each member’s exit statement hinted at deeper issues within the band, with Ken Susi alluding to his “personal morals” being “tested to a breaking point,” while Phil Sgrosso mentioned that “recent actions have shown that As I Lay Dying no longer offers a healthy or safe environment for anyone involved.”
Tim Lambesis issued a brief statement confirming his plans to rebuild the band with a new lineup, though he offered few details about the internal conflicts. Sgrosso was the longest-standing member among the recent lineup, while others, like Neff and Pierce, had joined in 2022.
With their fall European tour now canceled, As I Lay Dying is next slated to perform at ‘Welcome To Rockville‘ on May 16th in Daytona Beach, FL.
