Beartooth are racing against the clock to create a replacement lyric video for their new single, “Bullshit,” after frontman Caleb Shomo revealed the artist hired for the project allegedly used AI-generated elements despite assuring the band otherwise.
According to Shomo, the issue came to light after the video was flagged following its upload ahead of the song’s planned debut on June 18. After noticing several red flags and holding additional discussions, the band concluded that AI had indeed been used in the project.
In a statement shared on social media, Shomo made it clear that the band had no intention of incorporating AI into the release and accused the designer of misleading them throughout the process.
“The artist we commissioned for this project assured us adamantly throughout the process that no AI was used to create this lyric video.
Unfortunately after a lot of red flags and conversations this morning, we now know for a fact that was not the case.
We have no interest in using AI or artists lying about using AI to try to translate the blood sweat and tears that were put into this album in any way shape or form.”
Shomo added that his brother, Luke, who handled the artwork for the band’s forthcoming album, would be stepping in to create a new lyric video on short notice.
“My brother Luke who worked tirelessly on the album art will again work tirelessly tonight to whip up a lyric video we’re all proud of and stand behind because he’s really badass.
The song will be posted as scheduled.
We love you all and we love human creativity.”
Despite the setback, the release of “Bullshit” is expected to proceed as planned. The track serves as the latest preview of Beartooth’s upcoming album, Pure Ecstasy, which is currently slated for release on August 28.
