Beartooth have officially premiered their new single, “Bullsh*t,” offering another preview of their forthcoming album, Pure Ecstasy, due out August 28.
The song arrives after the band was forced to abandon plans for an elaborate lyric video when frontman Caleb Shomo revealed that the artist commissioned for the clip had used AI-generated elements despite assurances to the contrary. Shomo and his brother, Luke, ultimately put together a replacement lyric video themselves at the last minute, with Caleb stressing that the band had not authorized the use of AI in their artwork.
Speaking about the track, Shomo explained that “Bullsh*t” represents a return to the musical style that helped define Beartooth’s early years.
“‘Bullsh*t’ is a familiar song I’ve written many times. I wanted to revisit the musical style that was the catalyst of so much healing and discovery in my earlier years of Beartooth.
It’s an exercise in letting the truth out about what you’re sick of in your own life. Sometimes the easiest way to deal with something is to yell about it as loud as you can. Can confirm, it felt as amazing to do this exercise now as it did when I was 19.”
“Bullsh*t” marks another taste of Pure Ecstasy, which has already generated considerable discussion following Shomo’s decision earlier this year to publicly come out as a “proudly gay man.”
