Black Label Society Share Zakk Wylde’s Ozzy Osbourne Tribute “Ozzy’s Song”

Black Label Society have officially released their latest album, ‘Engines Of Demolition’, and closing out the record is an especially personal moment for frontman Zakk Wylde — a tribute track dedicated to his longtime bandmate and mentor, Ozzy Osbourne, titled “Ozzy’s Song.”

The emotional finale arrives as a reflection on Wylde’s decades-long relationship with the legendary vocalist, whom he often affectionately referred to as “The Boss.” While the music for the song was written prior to Osbourne’s passing, Wylde completed the lyrics only after returning from the funeral last summer, using the experience as the emotional foundation for the track.

Wylde first joined Ozzy Osbourne’s band in 1987, beginning a partnership that would span generations of heavy metal. Adding deeper symbolism to the recording process, portions of “Ozzy’s Song” were written using Wylde’s famed 1981 Les Paul Custom — nicknamed The Grail — the same guitar he used during his earliest writing sessions with Osbourne. The instrument itself carries history, having once been lost in transit before ultimately being returned by a fan.

Speaking with Guitar World, Wylde explained how the song evolved following Osbourne’s death:

“I wrote the music before Oz passed away. But after Oz passed away, when we went back to England and we laid Ozzy to rest, when I got right from that, I went straight to Pantera celebrations with Phil [Anselmo], Rex [Brown], and Charlie [Benante]. So I hooked back up with the fellas, and we were back rolling.

And then when I got done, when we got done with the Pantera celebration run, when I got home, I was just sitting in the house and [this] is when I wrote the lyrics and just sang the song. I was just thinking about Oz, and then I just wrote the lyrics.”

To further commemorate the tribute, a special livestream event has been scheduled for Friday, April 27th. The free broadcast will feature the first live performance of “Ozzy’s Song” alongside the premiere of its official music video.

The stream will air via Veeps at 06:00 PM PST / 09:00 PM EST, with the music video also set to debut on YouTube later that evening.
