BLACK SABBATH & OZZY OSBOURNE Farewell Show Raises Over $190 Million For Charity

The recently held ‘Back To The Beginning’ farewell concert for Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t just a celebration of heavy metal’s origins—it became one of the most impactful charity events in the genre’s history. Held this past Saturday, July 05th at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK, the star-studded tribute raised over $190 million for Cure Parkinson’s, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice.

Coordinated by Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine), the historic night featured performances from supergroups and artists representing Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Tool, Pantera, and many more. The entire event was broadcast globally via PPV livestream and featured a charity auction in the lead-up, contributing to the massive fundraising total.

Morello, who served as Musical Director, reflected on the event in a July 08th post, sharing a gallery of behind-the-scenes moments and memories:

“We set out to not just create the greatest day in the history of heavy metal… THANK YOU @ozzyosbourne for trusting me to be the Musical Director of the Back To The Beginning show. It was over a year of hard work but heavy metal was the music that made me love music and it was a labor of love. We raised a ton of money for a great cause and so many great musicians & bands & fans all over the world paid tribute to the ALL TIME greats.”

Highlights included Jack Black lifting Roman Morello during a rousing rendition of “Mr. Crowley”, a guest appearance from a member of The Rolling Stones, and unforgettable collaborations—like Morello reuniting onstage with Adam Jones of Tool, his former high school bandmate.

Hosted by Jason Momoa, the event proved not only to be a sendoff for Sabbath, but a celebration of heavy metal’s global legacy.
