With Brand New‘s full U.S. reunion tour set to launch next month, new allegations have emerged against frontman Jesse Lacey. A woman named Aiyana has come forward with her story, alleging grooming behavior by Lacey that began in 2006 when she was 15 years old. Her account includes photos and screenshots, adding to previous accusations that first surfaced in 2017.
In a newly published piece titled ‘A Call for Accountability: Why Jesse Lacey and Brand New Should Not Be Touring Right Now‘, Aiyana details how she met Lacey after a show as a teenager. What began as a chance meeting reportedly evolved into frequent chats on AOL Instant Messenger, late-night gaming sessions, and even Lacey spending time with her family and taking her around New York City.
Aiyana recalled:
After we had dinner with the band and returned to our home state, Jesse initiated regular contact with me through AIM. He texted me several times a week and invited me to play games with him (World of Warcraft, Yahoo! Games — sometimes for 6–7 hours at a time). I felt like I was at the center of his world. As a 15-year-old, it felt thrilling to have someone I admired so deeply establish regular connection with me.
The account outlines how, over time, Lacey repeatedly inserted comments about love, made sexually suggestive remarks, and stressed the importance of keeping their interactions hidden—particularly after parts of their conversations were exposed online.
After one show, I received a text message from the tour manager that said something along the lines of, “You two are so cute — Jesse and I were just talking about how we want to snuggle with you both on the tour bus.” While it felt playful at the time, it also left me feeling unsettled. There were other instances where comments were made about my friend’s appearance, such as remarks about her chest that seemed to suggest her display of her body could lead to getting him in trouble. Comments about the irony of being with two girls as young as we were while strolling past a courthouse together. These things would often upset us, but Jesse would quickly try to smooth things over with gestures such as hugs or kissing us on our temples. This type of push-and-pull behavior became something I recognized as part of my interactions with him, where teasing or embarrassing remarks were often followed by validation or affection. It left me feeling unsure about where the boundaries truly lay in our relationship.

I’m not known for being able to articulate well so I guess I can explain it through a hypothetical situation. If I had a son who was accused by a woman I wouldn’t assume she was making this up but I also wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that he’s a rapist. I’d need to know all 3 sides; his, hers and the truth.
I think holding perpetrators accountable will set the precedent moving forward that we’re not going to let these things be excused anymore, no more “boys will be boys”. But I also strongly believe in redemption and the truth.
Cancel culture is mostly virtue signaling on the part of the mobs coming for the accused. But on the contrary, we don’t want to live in a world where perpetrators are enabled and defended. My question on this matter, are these current allegations from events that took place when the original act was conducted? If so, he admitted his wrongs (not saying forgive and forget) he sought help and hopefully has become a better person. I’m sure he is equally as sorry for anyone else he hurt in that time.
