Turnstile frontman Brendan Yates once again stepped in during a security-related incident at one of the band’s performances, this time during their recent benefit show in Washington, D.C.
Footage circulating online shows a female fan wearing a Turnstile shirt crowd-surfing toward the front of the audience before entering a restricted backstage area. After repeatedly evading security personnel attempting to escort her away, the situation caught Yates’ attention while the band was performing “T.L.C.” from their 2021 album ‘Glow On’.
Yates initially tried to get security’s attention using his microphone. When those attempts proved unsuccessful, he reached down, took the fan’s hand and helped her onto the stage, where she remained as the band finished the song.
The incident marks the second time this month that Yates has intervened during a security-related situation at a Turnstile show.
On October 5, the band halted a performance in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, after a security guard was accused of punching a fan. Turnstile stopped playing until the guard in question was removed from the venue.
The Washington, D.C. performance was held in partnership with Human Concern International, with donations benefiting humanitarian relief efforts in Palestine, Sudan and Lebanon.
Organizers reported that fundraising had already exceeded $150,000 before the event began. At the time of the latest reports, donations through LaunchGood had surpassed $209,000 toward a $250,000 goal.
The benefit reportedly drew an estimated 60,000 attendees, making it a large-scale gathering in support of the relief effort.
