Following his surprise on-stage announcement at ‘Furnace Fest 2024‘ that it would be his last performance with Bury Your Dead, longtime vocalist Mat Bruso has returned to clarify the future of the band—and potentially set the stage for a proper farewell.
In a statement posted to the band’s official Facebook page tonight, April 13th, Bruso acknowledged that while his decision to leave was sincere, it came as a shock to his bandmates, who heard about it for the first time in real time at the festival.
“As many of you probably heard, I announced back at @furnacefest in 2024 that would be my final show with @buryyourdeadofficial or otherwise. I shared my motivations at the time and meant every word I said. However, what I failed to share at the time was that this was the first my band would be hearing of it. When I turned around and saw Mark waving goodbye to the crowd I realized my leaving meant this very well may be Mark’s final show as well. I regretted it.”
He continued:
“Bury Your Dead is not my band. It is Mark‘s band… and Slim‘s band. It wasn’t right of me to close their book for them whether I did it intentionally or not. I would like the opportunity to rectify that. #OneLastTime”
The post was accompanied by a photo of the current lineup—Mat Bruso, Mark Castillo, Brendan “Slim” MacDonald, and Aaron “Bubble” Patrick—alongside the words “One Last Time” and “Bury Your Dead Forever”, leading many fans to believe a final show will be formally announced in the near future.
While no dates or venues have been revealed yet, the tone of the post strongly hints that a proper farewell for the band—and for the fans—may be on the horizon.
