Alternative metal outfit Butcher Babies have announced their sixth studio album, ‘Nightbloom’, which is set for an October 2nd release through Judge & Jury Records.
The label was co-founded by producer Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, Skillet) and Neil Sanderson of Three Days Grace, with the pair also serving as co-producers on the new record alongside Joe Rickard and Butcher Babies guitarist Henry Flury.
According to vocalist Heidi Shepherd, ‘Nightbloom’ was born out of an intensely personal period in her life. The writing process followed a period of therapy that brought suppressed memories and difficult experiences back to the surface, ultimately providing a way for her to transform those experiences into something positive.
“While reliving and experiencing some of my darkest moments, I started to finally bloom. These songs grew and took on life in the dark. In writing these songs, I was able to turn negative experiences in my life into something positive, which in turn gave these memories a new place to live.”
Shepherd says the album ultimately became less about the difficult experiences themselves and more about what came from surviving them.
“This new album isn’t about the suffering; it’s about the survival. These songs were born from memories of heartbreak, uncertainty, betrayal, and pain. But they’re not just about those subjects, they’re more about what grew because of them.”
Shepherd ultimately describes ‘Nightbloom’ as a record about finding beauty and growth during difficult periods.
“Not everything beautiful needs perfect sunshine to flourish. Sometimes the most meaningful parts of life begin in the darkest seasons.”
Flury likewise emphasized the deliberate approach taken during the writing and recording process.
“Writing with purpose. That was the overall theme of this album. Each part, layer, lyric was crafted with purpose and focus. Nothing was unimportant. Every detail was created to tell a story with a singular voice. ‘Nightbloom’ is our most important work we’ve ever done in Butcher Babies.”
