Oklahoma City noise rock outfit Chat Pile have released another taste of their upcoming album, Who Loves The Sun, unveiling the crushing new single “PEN I S MALL” alongside an accompanying music video.
The track arrives ahead of the album’s scheduled September 4 release and, despite its tongue-in-cheek title, bassist Stin says the song packs the biggest punch of anything the band has recorded so far.
Stin explained:
“The heaviest Chat Pile song to date. The song and title refer to a stretch of time when Raygun was working as a maintenance man at one of the local shopping malls here in OKC. He screamed himself into a pretty brutal headache tracking this one if I remember correctly.”
Frontman Raygun Busch also shed light on the inspiration behind the track, connecting it to his experiences working maintenance jobs and broader frustrations with modern economic realities.
Busch said:
“If survival wasn’t so brutal in the United States, a maintenance job at a local mall could in theory be a fun gig… Of course, the awful beast known as Capitalism is extremely rickety with not enough to truly go around in fair share as those in the lower and even middle positions know all too well.”
“PEN I S MALL” is the latest preview of Who Loves The Sun, which continues to build anticipation for the band’s follow-up to their acclaimed 2024 output. The album is set to arrive on September 4.
Following the release, Chat Pile will head overseas for a run of European and UK dates before embarking on an extensive North American headlining tour this fall. The trek will feature support from Soul Glo, Virga, and Shallowater on select dates, along with an appearance at Riot Fest in Chicago.
