For Sevendust guitarist and vocalist Clint Lowery, the band’s fifteenth studio album represents more than just music—it’s also a reflection of his personal faith. In a recent interview with Church Leaders, Lowery opened up about how embracing Christianity has influenced both his life and his creative process, revealing that he credited God before every recording session.
“This is the first record where every single session, before I even sat down to write, I gave glory and credit to God,” Lowery explained.
“Writing can be agonizing or fulfilling, but this time, I acknowledged the source of everything—the creative spark, the way I hear music, the way I perceive it—it all comes from Him.”
Addressing speculation that Sevendust’s next album would be a “Christian metal” record, Lowery clarified:
“Some headlines made it sound like we were going full-on Christian metal, which isn’t the case. We’ve touched on spiritual themes before, but this album reflects a more personal journey. There’s a track called ‘Till Death’ that’s the heaviest song we’ve written, and it came from processing my faith in my own way. I wanted it to feel natural, guided by God, rather than forced into every song.”
Lowery described how his faith has shaped both the music and his relationships within the band:
“The sessions were incredibly fulfilling. The energy in the room, the relationships with my bandmates—it all felt like God working through us. I used to get caught up in gossip or negativity, but now I try to add encouragement. It’s amazing how much that changes the dynamic.”
He also shared that giving credit to God helped him move past old frustrations about songwriting credits:
“I realized that some of the resentment I held over credits was empty. Talking with Eric Bass from Shinedown, we both understood that we hadn’t been giving the ultimate source of creativity its due. That changed everything for me.”
Recording sessions for the album wrapped earlier this month with Michael “Elvis” Baskette (Alter Bridge, Mammoth) producing, and mixing is expected to finish by early December. Fans can anticipate the first single arriving in early 2026, with the full album likely following in the summer.
Lowery added that while his faith has influenced his perspective, it doesn’t mean the band’s music will abandon its heaviness or authenticity:
“God has put me where I need to be. Some of the language or themes from older songs might not fully align with my current path, but that’s part of growth. He wants more from me, and I hope to do more through the music to help others.”
