Slipknot percussionist and artistic director M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan has released another track from O’Day Monster, his AI-assisted musical project. Titled “Let Me Out,” the song marks the second offering from the endeavor and features guest vocals from Liz Anne Hill.
The trip-hop-leaning track arrives alongside AI-assisted visuals, continuing Crahan’s ongoing exploration of artificial intelligence as a creative tool. The Slipknot member previously compared AI to a “pocket producer” and first introduced O’Day Monster in July.
Crahan has described the project as a way to bring his own words and ideas to life through the voices of collaborators, with its central themes drawing from the ongoing internal struggle between self-destruction and self-preservation.
“I’ve entered a time in my life where I wanted to create something I could conduct and drive, with words. I wanted to create the spaceship I could drive with my words.”
He has also credited close friends with helping bring the project to life, explaining that he wanted performers who could deliver his lyrics with the conviction their subject matter demanded.
“This has been my suffering, and salvation, my entire life. You know, the ‘I’m my own worst enemy’ kind of situation.”
While the new track features AI-assisted visuals, the precise extent of artificial intelligence’s involvement in the music itself has not been confirmed.
