Former Stray From The Path drummer and ‘The Downbeat’ podcast host Craig Reynolds has opened up about the personal issues that led to his recent absence from social media and vlogging.
While episodes of his podcast continued to roll out in recent months, Reynolds had largely stepped away from sharing updates from his day-to-day life. Last week, he finally explained why, revealing that an ice storm in Nashville, TN severely damaged the house he had been renting while he was overseas visiting family for Christmas.
According to Reynolds, the storm hit while he was back home in the UK spending the holidays with his parents. During that time, a tree crashed through the roof of his Nashville rental property, leaving the home heavily damaged and forcing him to scramble to rescue his cats from the property remotely.
Speaking in a recent video update, Reynolds explained the situation [transcribed by theprp.com]:
“I had high hopes for the beginning of this year to be fully back to vlogging. Had a lot on. And then actually some of the most stressful things of my life happened and it’s pushed it back.”
He continued by detailing the damage caused by the storm and the aftermath that followed:
“I went back to see my parents in the UK at Christmas. While I was there, there was an ice storm in Nashville, and that basically took out my house. Completely took it out. [There was a] tree on it… I had 3 days left of the trip seeing my parents. Had to phone someone to come and rescue the cats. There was a tree in the roof. It was leaking and the landlord did nothing.”
Reynolds also shared that dealing with the fallout from the situation left him mentally drained and uninterested in filming content during the ordeal.
“I haven’t really sort of wanted to pick up a camera and be like, ‘Hey guys, look how shit everything is.’”
The former drummer went on to reveal that he has since relocated to a new home in Nashville after weeks of dealing with the damage and move-out process.
“As of like last week, we’ve moved to a different place. As you can see, it’s a bit better… It’s more expensive, but we moved. I’m here for a good while, I think. So, it might as well live a little bit more comfortably.”
Reynolds exited Stray From The Path earlier this year after more than a decade behind the kit and has continued focusing on his growing podcast platform and media work since stepping away from the band.
