Canadian prog-rock innovator Devin Townsend has released an alternate take on his recently debuted single “Enter The City,” labeled the ‘The Afterlife’ version. This rendition is part of the deluxe edition of his forthcoming 24-song rock opera, which will feature ‘The Afterlife’ versions of every track from the album.
Townsend explained the concept behind these versions, focusing on a track called “The Moth”:
“‘The Moth’ is really big. You can take any element of the recording and it stands alone. The full version can feel like a soundtrack to a nervous breakdown 🙂. This version focuses solely on the choir and orchestra. The North Netherlands National Choir and Orchestra had practiced their parts extensively, and reducing the track to just them created a powerful, stripped-down presentation. Their performance was incredible, and it felt essential to showcase their work in its pure form.”
Townsend praised the choir and orchestra for their dedication, calling the ‘Afterlife’ versions a way to highlight the depth and nuance of the recordings.
“The Moth” and the rest of the deluxe edition are set for release on May 29th via HevyDevy Records/Inside Out Music.
