Elder have announced the postponement of their remaining fall tour dates as bassist Jack Donovan continues to receive treatment for a serious case of pneumonia.
Donovan was hospitalized earlier this week while Elder were touring through Portland, OR, where the band had been performing alongside Blackwater Holylight and Blask. He had reportedly been dealing with illness during the tour before his condition worsened and required hospitalization.
According to a new statement from Elder, Donovan remains hospitalized in Portland and is expected to require continued treatment for anywhere from several days to multiple weeks. With his condition still considered serious, the band have decided that continuing the tour without him is not an option.
The group addressed the situation in a statement shared on Thursday, September 24th:
“With a heavy heart, we’re forced to postpone our remaining shows on this tour with Blackwater Holylight.”
“Jack’s struggle with a serious case of pneumonia is ongoing and he remains hospitalized in Portland. Although he’s getting the care he needs, his treatment is likely to continue for a number of days to weeks. As long as the situation remains critical, the thought of performing without him in any capacity is impossible.”
Elder also apologized to fans who were expecting to see the remaining shows, while emphasizing that Donovan’s health is the band’s immediate priority.
“We hate to disappoint and know that you’ve been looking forward to these shows as much as we have, but we’re also lucky to have the coolest fans in the world who doubtless understand the gravity of the situation. We promise we’ll come back stronger and make it up to you.”
The band have confirmed that the postponed performances will be rescheduled, although they cautioned that the process could take some time. Fans holding tickets will be contacted with information regarding the new dates, while refunds will be available through the original point of purchase for those who cannot attend the rescheduled shows.
Elder also thanked their fans, friends and family for their support and positive thoughts, while giving a special shout-out to Blackwater Holylight for supporting Donovan and the band throughout the difficult situation.
“Thank you to our friends, family and fans for your positive thoughts and to BWHL for being awesome and supporting Jack and us through this chaotic situation.”
For now, the band’s priority remains Donovan’s recovery as he continues his treatment in Portland.
