Veteran Bay Area thrashers Exodus have officially returned with new music, premiering their latest single “3111” — their first new release since reuniting with vocalist Rob Dukes and signing with Napalm Records.
The track serves as the opening salvo for the band’s forthcoming twelfth studio album, Goliath, which is scheduled to arrive on March 20. While Exodus did complete a music video for “3111,” the clip never made it to YouTube, having reportedly been rejected for violating the platform’s community standards due to its graphic content.
Guitarist Gary Holt addressed the situation, explaining that the band were warned their official channel could be removed if the video was uploaded. As a result, Exodus are now preparing two versions of the clip, with plans to release an uncensored cut through alternate outlets at a later date.
Musically and lyrically, “3111” pulls no punches. The song draws inspiration from cartel-related violence in Mexico, specifically referencing the estimated number of murders that occurred in Juárez during 2010. The band said of the track:
“We decided to go hard with the leadoff single, ‘3111’. The song is about the narco killings in Juarez, and ‘3111’ is the estimated number of murders for 2010 alone.”
Goliath was self-produced by the band, with Mark Lewis (Cannibal Corpse, Whitechapel) handling mixing and mastering duties. Collectively, Exodus describe the album as one of the most collaborative efforts of their long-running career, emphasizing contributions across the lineup.
“Are we excited for this record? That’s an understatement. We put everything we had into this record and it’s one of our proudest accomplishments. Wildly collaborative, the most band-centric album to date… The time to let the monster loose is coming! Bow Down!”
According to the accompanying press release, the album wastes no time asserting its scale and intensity. Following the ominous introduction of “3111,” tracks like “Hostis Humani Generis” and “The Changing Me” continue the assault, with the latter featuring guest vocals from Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain). The title track “Goliath” slows the tempo while leaning into towering atmosphere, bolstered by string arrangements from Katie Jacoby.
Elsewhere, songs such as “Beyond The Event Horizon,” “2 Minutes Hate,” and “Violence Works” showcase the band’s trademark thrash aggression, while the nearly eight-minute epic “Summon Of The God Unknown” explores more expansive, dynamic territory. The album closes with “The Dirtiest Of The Dozen,” a high-energy finale packed with dueling solos, intricate rhythms, and unrelenting intensity.
