Failure have officially restored much of their catalog to Spotify after pulling several releases from the platform in protest back in 2022.
The space rock outfit originally withdrew material they controlled due to concerns over low streaming payouts and Spotify’s controversial partnership with podcast host Joe Rogan at the time. While portions of their early catalog released through Slash Records remained available, newer-era releases disappeared from the service for several years.
In a statement issued during their 2022 decision, the band criticized Spotify’s royalty structure, describing streaming compensation as disproportionately small compared to the revenue generated by artists’ music. They also cited concerns over COVID-19 vaccine misinformation on the platform, arguing it directly impacted the live music industry and touring environment.
At the time, the band encouraged fans to support their music through alternative platforms such as Bandcamp and other streaming services that they felt offered more sustainable compensation models for artists.
Although Failure have not publicly commented on the catalog’s return, the move appears connected to a new label partnership. The group recently aligned their Failure Records imprint with Arduous Records, a Virgin Music Group imprint overseen by veteran manager Blaze James.
Following that agreement, advance singles from the band’s upcoming seventh studio album ‘Location Lost’ have begun appearing on Spotify. Updated credits on returning releases — including ‘The Heart Is A Monster’, ‘In The Future Your Body Will Be The Furthest Thing From Your Mind’, and ‘Wild Type Droid’ — now reflect the new Arduous Records partnership.
The latest preview of ‘Location Lost’, the single “A Way Down,” debuted online this week as the band ramps up promotion for the forthcoming record.
