Beartooth vocalist Caleb Shomo’s wife, Fleur Shomo, has publicly commented on his recent announcement revealing that he is “a proudly gay man.”
Caleb shared the deeply personal statement on May 23rd, opening up about years of internal struggle surrounding his sexuality, self-acceptance, and the emotional journey that ultimately led to him publicly coming out.
Shortly after Caleb’s statement was published, Fleur took to Instagram to share her own thoughts on the situation, while also confirming that the developments have resulted in the end of their nearly 14-year marriage. The couple married back in 2012.
In her statement, Fleur expressed continued support for Caleb while also candidly discussing the emotional toll the situation has taken on her personally over the past several months.
“The past few months have been a very disorientating and hurtful time to navigate. For both of us. But I will always want to love, protect and support Caleb.”
She continued by speaking about the difficulty of balancing support for someone she deeply cares about while simultaneously dealing with her own grief and uncertainty.
“To support him whilst losing everything has been incredibly hard to figure out. You can love and support your person through the hardest time in their life, whilst also be completely demolished & lose yourself at the same time.”
Fleur also reflected on the couple’s relationship, emphasizing that despite the heartbreak surrounding the situation, she still values the life and memories they shared together.
“Our nearly 14yrs of marriage was wonderful and full of so much fun, adventure & love.”
“Our story was a good one. And now it’s done.”
Elsewhere in the post, Fleur explained that remaining silent publicly while Caleb worked through the situation created an isolating experience for her mentally and emotionally.
“The isolation of not being able to talk to people about this has been profound, as it has not been my story to share.”
She concluded by encouraging fans to continue supporting Caleb moving forward while she focuses on rebuilding and moving ahead herself.
Caleb’s original announcement followed months of online speculation that intensified after the release of Beartooth’s recent single “Free”, which featured a dramatic visual and stylistic transformation from the vocalist. The response online led to increased scrutiny and backlash from some corners of social media, with Caleb later stepping away from his personal accounts for a period of time before returning earlier this month.
