Gojira opened their latest headlining run across France last night (November 27th), taking the stage at the Reims Arena for a show that proved far more eventful than expected. Despite going in shorthanded—with vocalist/guitarist Joe Duplantier performing through a hand injury—the band tapped Greg Kubacki of Car Bomb as a temporary fill-in guitarist.
Even with the lineup adjustment, the GRAMMY-winning progressive metal outfit didn’t play it safe. Instead, they delivered a pair of genuine setlist milestones.
The night featured the live debut of “Born In Winter”, taken from their 2012 album L’Enfant Sauvage, as well as the first-ever performance of “Global Warming” from From Mars To Sirius. The latter closed out the show during the encore.
Fans were also treated to several additional rarities. “Wisdom Comes”—off 2003’s The Link—returned to the stage for the first time since 2017. A multi-song medley built from From Mars To Sirius selections (“Where Dragons Dwell”, “To Sirius”, “Ocean Planet”, “In The Wilderness”) was also inserted into the set, fittingly timed as that album celebrated its 20th anniversary this past September.
