Texas grocery chain H-E-B joined forces with content creator Connor Dwyer for a limited-edition death metal–style T-shirt, and the demand was instant. The shirts dropped Friday, October 17th at 10 a.m., and sold out within minutes.
Only 1,000 shirts were released through H-E-B’s online store at $35 each, with 100% of proceeds going to the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) — a nonprofit providing healthcare services for local musicians.
The collaboration came about after Dwyer’s viral TikTok series imagining “metal band” shirts for everyday brands like Cracker Barrel caught H-E-B’s attention. This marks the chain’s first time turning one of those viral concepts into official merch.
“I started the ‘metal tee’ series earlier this year as a fun side project,” Dwyer shared. “I’ve always loved taking everyday brands and reimagining them as if they were in completely different worlds, like turning grocery stores into metal bands. A lot of my ideas come from scrolling through my comments section or seeing what people are nostalgic about. If a brand has a loyal fan base or strong identity, that’s usually where I start — and WOW does H-E-B have a loyal fan base!”
The success of the collaboration has fans already calling for more limited-edition runs — and it’s clear Texas metalheads are ready to throw down for a good cause.
