Former Danzig and Samhain guitarist John Christ has provided an update on his current absence from guitar lessons and live performances, revealing that he has been dealing with a medical issue that has required him to step away from his usual activities.
In a statement shared on September 2, Christ explained that he is currently recuperating and has been instructed by his doctors to take several months off to allow his body to recover.
“Recently, I have been focusing on a medical issue that has been kicking my butt and I am in the process of recuperating.”
Christ added that his doctors have advised him to rest, joking that they threatened to send Glenn Danzig to his house to make sure he follows their orders.
“The doctors have requested that I take a few months off to rest up and let my body get back to normal or else they said they will send Glenn to my house to babysit—that is motivation enough to get better!”
As a result of his recovery, Christ will not be offering guitar lessons or performing live for the time being. He assured fans who have reached out about lessons that he plans to reconnect with them once he is healthy enough to return.
“Sadly, as a result of this, I will be unable to do any lessons or gigs until further notice.”
“I guarantee you that just as soon as I am back on my feet and shredding, I will contact everyone who has reached out to me to set up time for lessons.”
Christ also addressed his merchandise operation, noting that his team will continue working through orders while asking fans for patience if fulfillment takes longer than usual.
The guitarist closed by thanking fans for their continued support and promising to provide another update once he is feeling better and ready to resume his activities.
“I really appreciate all of your support over the years and especially now while I heal up.”
He once again brought Danzig into the mix with a final joke about his temporary radio silence:
“If there’s radio silence, it’s not because JC doesn’t love you, it’s because I’m under doctor’s orders. C’mon, do you really want them sending Glenn to my house!?”
At this time, Christ has not publicly disclosed further details about the medical issue.
