Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett added another memorable moment to his long touring history during the band’s headlining performance at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland on June 19th.
The veteran guitarist took an unexpected spill while performing the 1983 classic “Seek & Destroy”, slipping near the end of the song and briefly missing a riff or two before quickly recovering and carrying on. The track served as the penultimate song of the evening, with the band set to return to the same venue on June 21st.
Fortunately, the mishap appeared to be more of an equipment issue than a simple stumble. Footage of the incident shows Hammett placing his foot on a stage cover that unexpectedly gave way beneath him, causing the fall.
Hammett himself appeared to take the incident in stride. Sharing video of the moment to his Instagram story, he jokingly captioned it “Slip & Destroy,” poking fun at the mishap.
The fall marks the latest in a series of onstage accidents Hammett has experienced over the years, though he quickly bounced back and finished the performance without issue.
Fan-shot footage of the incident has since surfaced online, showing the guitarist’s quick recovery and sense of humor in the aftermath.
