VITRIOL’s Kyle Rasmussen Says His Villainous ‘Preta’ Persona Is Intended As “Satire”

Vitriol vocalist Kyle Rasmussen has been leaning heavily into a self-described “villain era,” claiming that his recently adopted online persona ‘Preta’ is a satirical creation — even as fans continue to question whether the bit has gone too far.

Last month, Rasmussen was publicly ousted mid-tour, when his bandmates allegedly left him outside a New York ice-cream shop following what he previously called a cocaine-fueled blowout. After the rest of Vitriol announced they were parting ways with him due to “aggressive behavior,” Rasmussen turned to crowdfunding to get himself, his girlfriend and their dog back home to Oregon. Supporters contributed nearly $11,000 to that effort.

Since then, Rasmussen has posted an increasingly theatrical manifesto about a so-called “detestable metamorphosis.” On November 28th, he shared an elaborate monologue announcing the death of “Kyle Rasmussen” and the birth of “Preta,” casting the character as everything from an “apex Meanie” to a “grand serial killer of troubadours.”

“Kyle Rasmussen is dead. He died by his successor’s own hand. From this less evolved mortal shell, Preta has been unchained… Preta is the problem and the solution. He is the alpha and the omega. He is the Beavis and the Butthead.”

“His reprehensibility is divine and he was born to murder the world… Being publicly evil is gonna be so much fun!!!”

Rasmussen has leaned into absurdity — at one point responding to a fan asking about cocaine use by saying, “Preta doesn’t waste time with such cowardly intoxicants. He grinds up Pervitin tablets and sprinkles them into his eyes.” — but some followers remain concerned that the behavior reflects an actual crisis rather than performance art.

Addressing that worry, Rasmussen insisted that he is taking care of his mental health and that the entire Preta presentation is deliberately tongue-in-cheek:

“I will pause what is my strongest work of satire yet to address this real concern… I see a psychiatrist, a PhD psychologist for weekly therapy, I am medicated, and I have over 200 hours of meditation under my belt… Some things can be approached lightly because the reality of the situation is quite light.”

Another user bluntly asked if the manifesto was simply a “sh*tpost.” Rasmussen replied: “There’s a Garbage song and a Beavis and Butthead reference.”

While the fate of Vitriol remains unclear, Rasmussen has emphasized that the band will continue “as a collaborative,” while he continues to escalate his bizarre and darkly comedic villain routine — a caricature he maintains is rooted in satire rather than a genuine unraveling.
