Lacuna Coil’s Cristina Scabbia recently opened up to Metal Hammer about the darker side of embracing her sexuality and femininity with the band. In the early to mid-2000s, Scabbia frequently graced the pages of Revolver magazine’s “hottest chicks in metal” issues and covers—a boost to her profile that came with a downside. Increased visibility led to unwanted attention from dangerous stalkers.
Recalling one North American tour, Scabbia revealed she was essentially confined to her tour bus, with an FBI agent checking in at every stop. She recalled:
“I did have actual stalkers that were potentially dangerous and would follow me around. I remember them sending me weird pictures of me covered in blood or sending me pictures of a foetus. I reported it, and for one complete tour I had an FBI agent in every town checking on me. It was not only disturbing, it was also boring for me because I had to be confined on a tour bus every day.”
Her candid account highlights the personal risks that can come with fame in the metal scene.
