Vicious Rumors Drummer Larry Howe Exits, Says Music Industry Is “Saturated With Leftist Ideologues”

Vicious Rumors have officially parted ways with longtime drummer Larry Howe after months of controversy surrounding his political posts and the impact they reportedly had on the band’s touring plans.

Howe, who had been a member of the veteran power metal outfit since 1985, was previously sidelined from live dates earlier this year after promoter concerns and canceled shows tied to backlash over his outspoken views. At the time, the band brought in a touring replacement to keep scheduled appearances intact.

Now, Howe has stated he will no longer perform with the group “for the foreseeable future,” blaming what he described as a music industry “saturated with leftist ideologues.” In his social media statement, he framed the situation as another example of cancel culture.

The band issued their own response on April 20th, confirming that Howe has formally stepped down.

“Larry Howe has announced he’s stepping down from Vicious Rumors. We tried to save our musical bond but all we got in return was canceled shows, lost tours and a fight we had nothing to do with.”

They continued:

“After paying such a high price over one individual person’s views we accept his resignation. Although we made some timeless albums, it’s time to get back to the music.”

Despite the lineup shakeup, Vicious Rumors say their upcoming European Asylum Tour remains fully intact, running from May 9th through June 20th, with a new drummer set to begin immediately.

The split ends a lengthy tenure for Howe, who played on multiple eras of the band’s catalog, while signaling a reset as the group moves forward.
