Linkin Park’s current tour behind 2024’s From Zero rolled through Phoenix, AZ on September 6th — the hometown of late frontman Chester Bennington — where the band shared a touching moment with two very special audience members: Chester’s former high school choir teacher and her son.
During the group’s performance at PHX Arena, frontman Mike Shinoda paused after “When They Come For Me” to interact with a fan in graduation attire. The fan, named Dylan, revealed he had skipped his graduation ceremony to attend the concert. After signing Dylan’s shirt and gifting him his hat, Shinoda encouraged him to celebrate his achievement, joking:
“He skipped graduation to come here! You’ve got better than two signatures from the band. You’ve got six.”
That’s when Dylan revealed his mother’s identity — Chester Bennington’s high school choir teacher. Clearly moved, Shinoda hugged her and told the crowd:
“This is fucking crazy. This is so dope. His mom was Chester’s choir teacher in high school. I don’t know if I’d be over here if it wasn’t for you.”
The crowd erupted in cheers as Shinoda embraced both Dylan and his mother before leading the audience in giving them a massive ovation.
