Madball have unveiled another preview of their upcoming studio album, ‘Not Your Kingdom’, releasing the new track “Tethered” alongside an accompanying music video.
The song serves as the second single from the New York hardcore veterans’ tenth studio album, which is scheduled to arrive on July 24 through Nuclear Blast. The music video was co-directed by vocalist Freddy Cricien and filmmaker Dave Causa.
According to Cricien, “Tethered” ended up becoming the album’s opening track despite being one of the last songs written during the recording process.
“‘Tethered’ is the opening song on the record and that’s ironic because it’s one of the last ones written for the album.”
Cricien said the track captures a classic New York hardcore feel while still offering something fresh for longtime fans of the band.
“I love the vibe, very bouncy groovy NYHC that really transported me back to the 90’s – hence the lyrics/theme. To my ears, it has a ‘nostalgic’ feel but still manages to come across as something new for us!”
The frontman also explained that the song was chosen as the album’s second single because it showcases a different side of the record and helps establish the tone for what’s to come.
“Made sense for it to be the second single to demonstrate the diversity of the album – the whole thing is a story, a ride of sorts and this one as the opener really sets a good pace sonically and lyrically.”
‘Tethered’ follows the first material released from ‘Not Your Kingdom’ and offers another glimpse at what fans can expect from Madball’s first full-length album since 2018’s For The Cause.
The band’s tenth studio effort is set to arrive on July 24 via Nuclear Blast.
