GRAMMY Award-winning progressive sludge metal giants Mastodon have officially announced their ninth studio album, Marrow Deep, due out August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings.
The upcoming release marks a significant new chapter for the band as it will be their first album without former guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds, who departed the group in early 2025. Hinds tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident in August of last year, bringing an emotional weight to the band’s first post-Hinds studio effort.
Alongside the album announcement, Mastodon have premiered the record’s second single, “Snakes For Dinner,” accompanied by an official music video featuring a guest appearance from Queens Of The Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme.
The collaboration reunites Homme with Mastodon nearly two decades after his memorable guest appearance on “Colony Of Birchmen” from the band’s acclaimed 2006 album Blood Mountain.
According to the band, Marrow Deep draws lyrical inspiration from the Three Fates of Greek mythology, weaving themes of destiny, mortality, and fate throughout its 12-song tracklist.
In a statement accompanying the announcement, Mastodon shared their excitement about finally unveiling the project.
“You have all been asking for it, so we are excited to announce our new album, ‘Marrow Deep,’ will be released August 28th, 2026 and we are kicking it off with a new video for our new song ‘Snakes For Dinner,’ which features an appearance from our long time friend, Josh Homme.”
The band also reflected on the creative process behind the album.
“It’s been quite the journey making this album, and we are very happy with how it came out, we can not wait for you to hear the whole thing!”
