Canadian metalcore veterans Misery Signals crossed over into the wrestling world last month when AEW star Roderick Strong used their track “A Victim, A Target” during his entrance at CMLL’s Fin De Semana International Weekend in Mexico City, MX. The song, which opens the band’s 2004 debut album Of Malice And The Magnum Heart, set the tone as Strong faced off against Hechicero on the event’s opening night. Strong went on to win the match, marking a memorable moment where metalcore met pro wrestling.
Strong’s connection to metal extends beyond this match. He named his finishing move the “End Of Heartache” after Killswitch Engage’s 2004 single and routinely uses the song for his AEW entrances, which air nationally on television and HBO Max, giving the track broad exposure to fans worldwide.
This isn’t the first time Misery Signals have intersected with wrestling culture. WWE superstar Seth Rollins has cited the band among his personal favorites, even wearing a Misery Signals shirt to the ring during his time on the independent circuit and in Ring of Honor, highlighting the band’s influence on wrestlers across multiple promotions.
The band acknowledged Strong’s entrance on their social media, sharing a clip from the match and celebrating the moment where metalcore and pro wrestling collided.
