Moodring’s Hunter Young Reveals Korn, Sepultura, Fear Factory And More Inspired ‘Death Fetish’

Moodring mastermind Hunter Young has pulled back the curtain on the influences behind the band’s latest album, ‘Death Fetish’, revealing a wide-ranging list of records that helped shape its sound.

The album arrived March 17, and over the weekend Young took to X to clarify the creative direction behind the release, explaining that some comparisons circulating online missed the mark when it came to the project’s actual inspirations.

“Due to some outright interesting and misguided comparisons (that feel like they’re made because metalcore twt has no frame of reference) here some albums that inspired ‘death fetish’.”

According to Young, the record draws heavily from late ’90s and early 2000s alternative and nü-metal staples, alongside industrial rock, experimental acts, and international influences. Among the albums cited were:

Orgy – ‘Candyass’
Dir En Grey – ‘Vulgar’
Spineshank – ‘The Height Of Callousness’

Fear Factory – ‘Obsolete’

Young also pointed to Emmure’s 2007 album ‘Goodbye To The Gallows’ as a direct influence on his vocal approach, adding:

“You’ve heard me stream, it should be obvious.”

With ‘Death Fetish’, Moodring continue leaning into a nostalgic yet modern blend of alternative metal, industrial textures, and emotionally charged songwriting informed by the genre’s formative era.
